Cultural Cafe Performance- Yao Culture

Today at Stratford upon Avon College, The Cultural Cafe celebrated a style of culture called Yao.
Yao is a culture in China. We were sent to the Cultural Cafe to watch some Yao cultural people from China perform. They were singing in what we would call a mixed choir and they then had two of the men in the choir fight. A woman described that the fight was to show who was the stronger of the two by having a push of war.  It was a mixture of a push of war and gymnastics. They then had people from the audience to fight against one of the choir members which required strength and hand eye co-ordination.
In my opinion, I did not really understand the style of Yao very well. Although, I could tell the majority of the audience enjoyed the performance by the reaction of them. I think they enjoyed it because there was a lot of envolvement from the Yao group to the audience. This short teaser of tonight's more elaborate performance was successful as they were able to gauge what the audience response might be like. I enjoyed it in the way that it was unique and i did not understand it because i was not used to that type of musical culture.
They all were wearing strange, colourfull hats and silky clothes which was another part of which there culture is different.
Overall,  I did not understand what they were saying. What I could understand told me that this was is a story people of their own culture knew if they were performing to their own cultural audience.

Cox's Yard: Acoustic Yard, Stratford

Cox's Yard is a pub based in Stratford which holds many events throughout the week and weekends.
I went to an Acoustic gig which was called Acoustic Yard.
It started at 8:00pm and was introduced by a Traditional Flamenco guitarist called Matt Hernandez. Matt runs the Acostic Yard gigs at Cox's Yard.
In my opinion, I think he was a natural, talented guitarist who is a master at Traditional Flamenco acoustic style which is just one of his impressive aspects to his stagecraft.
To find out more more about Matt and Acoustic Yard, check out his myspace page at:
